SANTA CLARA, CA, March 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Xten Networks, Inc. (OTCBB: XNWK - News), a provider of award-winning VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), Video over IP, Instant Messaging (IM), and Presence SIP softphones, today reported financial results for the third quarter ended January 31, 2005. Total revenue for the quarter climbed to a record $928,608, compared to $677,364 for the quarter ended October 31, 2004, an increase of 37% quarter-over-quarter. This compared to $10,874 in the year-earlier period ended January 31, 2004. Net loss for the quarter was $88,827, or ($0.00) per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $198,275, or ($0.01) per diluted share, in the previous quarter. This compared to $102,500, or ($0.02) per diluted share, in the year-earlier period. The diluted weighted average common shares outstanding for the three months ended January 31, 2005 were 37,638,462 shares compared to 6,226,484 shares in the year-earlier period. For the first nine months of fiscal 2005, total revenue climbed to $2,093,123, compared to $345,873 (+505%) in the corresponding period in fiscal 2004. Net loss for the first nine months of fiscal 2005 was $478,235, or ($0.01) per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $143,961, or ($0.03) per diluted share, in the corresponding period in fiscal 2004. Software sales for the quarter totaled $838,163 compared to $653,618 for the quarter ended October 31, 2004, a 28% increase quarter-over-quarter. Light Reading reported that AT&T were seen demonstrating service at VON using Xten's Softphones. Excerpt... Other alliances were brought to light in the exhibit hall. Light Reading learned that AT&T is using Xten Networks Inc. SIP softphones; the (AT&T-branded) softphones appeared briefly at the AT&T booth, but were quickly removed after their cover was blown. more...

ineen is new P2P IM software with VoIP and Video that's easy and free to use. The client was built using Xten's eyeBeam SDK and makes use of SIMPLE for P2P IM and Presence. VoIP is supported by SIP and the Video media is H.263[+]. You can use ineen to call over other networks as well, including: Free World Dialup, SIPphone, & iptel.org. Xten will be demonstrating ineen at VON next week.

The FCC action came after VoIP providers Vonage and Nuvio complained to the agency broadband providers are blocking or degrading their Internet telephony services. In public comments, neither Vonage nor Nuvio named the providers blocking their traffic. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) today fined a North Carolina telecom holding company $15,000 for blocking Voice over IP (define) calls to their customers. In addition to the fine, Madison River Communications of Mebane, N.C., agreed to refrain from blocking VoIP traffic and to put measures into place to ensure that such blocking won't happen again. more...

Costa Rica's state-owned telecommunications monopoly is lobbying to criminalise internet telephony. The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) is pushing for stringent controls over VoIP that at their most draconian could make internet telephony a crime, Costa Rican daily La Nación reports. According to the paper, 20 per cent of Costa Rica international calls are made using VoIP rather than over conventional phone circuits. ICE argues that VoIP ought to be treated as a substitute telephone service and regulated more tightly than data services. It reckons tough rules against "unlicensed operators", including criminal sanctions if necessary, are needed. more...
